Chris Marques first became interested in Asian cultures in high school when some of his classmates participated in an exchange program with a Japanese sister city. That interest continued to grow and Chris eventually began teaching himself the Japanese language.
In the fall of 2003, Chris began a two-year seminary program at The Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training in Chicago, Ill. During a short summer break from training in 2004, Chris made his first trip to Japan. Upon his return he kept meeting Japanese people and learning from them.
After being ordained in 2005 Captain Chris Marques was appointed as the corps officer (pastor) of the Beloit, Wisconsin Corps.
In 2006 he returned to Japan on a vacation and had the opportunity to speak at a youth seminar. God continued to work in Chris’ life and give him a love for the people of Japan, a place where only half of one percent of the population profess to be Christians.
During the summer of 2009 Chris assumed a new appointment as the corps officer of the Ishpeming, Michigan Corps where he was stationed until he departed for Japan in February of 2011. Chris is looking forward to serving God’s flock in a different context and to putting into action his desire to share the love of Jesus in Asia.
