We would like to share with you some interesting projects our World Services Self-Denial offerings have funded. Recently, we heard of two roofing projects in our partner territory, Congo (Brazzaville).
The Pointe-Noire Central Corps is one of the oldest and strongest corps in the Territory. It has been a center of worship and evangelism for 80 years. The hall which was built over 60 years ago no longer meets the needs of the corps. The corps has saved money for the construction of their new hall, as the present one is no longer able to meet the needs of their growing congregation. The corps contribution for the construction of the hall represents 79% of the total costs. The USA Central funds will cover construction of the roof. The construction of the hall will enable the corps to nurture more souls.
A second project will restore the roof of the corps officers’ home at Indzouli, Congo. The home had been vandalized during social unrest in Brazzaville years ago. Looters had removed the corrugated iron and the timber of the framework. Now, the time has come to put back the roof on the house and use this much needed accommodation for Officers. We will also provide roofing materials for the officers’ home at Djiri. Locally, they will contribute transportation and handling of materials, labor, nails, scaffolding and other necessities for the project. To discharge their duties efficiently, officers need to have appropriate accommodation and this project will provide that for two officer families.
These roofing projects will contribute to advance the mission of The Salvation Army– to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. This is a beautiful picture of how we are partnering globally for the sake of the gospel.
