The Salvation Army USA Central Territory partners with five other territories and regions around the world for the purpose of learning from each other and helping one another expand and encourage the ministry of The Salvation Army spanning the globe. One of our Partners in Mission is the Congo (Brazzaville) territory. The Salvation Army was first established in The Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) in 1937 .
Over the years, The Salvation Army has developed a broad ministry in Congo (Brazzaville). This includes an Institute for the Blind, a Home for the Visually Impaired, many Health Clinics including an Eye Treatment Center and a Maternity Unit, along with many Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools. Each of these institutions have become reliable resources for the citizens of Congo (Brazzaville).
In January of 2019, the USA Central Territory was able to support the Congo (Brazzaville) territory by providing the funds for equipment to be used in the Health Clinics. Often, public health centers that are funded by the government are unable to assist large numbers of patients or their equipment is out of date. The Salvation Army Clinics have provided reliable medical care for patients in Congo (Brazzaville) for over six decades. This project will allow for Salvation Army Health Clinics to continue serving these communities! By funding this equipment upgrade, The Salvation Army in Congo (Brazzaville) has been able to improve the standard of the services offered by clinics, provide excellent medical care, respond efficiently to the healthcare needs of the patients who come to these clinics, and improve the health of the patients.
Ensuring that Salvation Army Health Clinics have proper equipment is important now more than ever with the threat of COVID-19. The Salvation Army in Congo (Brazzaville) is at work to provide assistance to people in need. The International Headquarters of The Salvation Army reports, “Families in six of the most impoverished suburbs of Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, are being supported with emergency Salvation Army food parcels of rice, saltfish, beans, sugar, oil and powdered milk. The loss of employment because of coronavirus restrictions is widespread, and starvation is a very real risk. Approximately 1,580 recipients will also benefit from hygiene supplies such as bars of soap and plastic bags to safely remove potentially contaminated waste.”
