Additional Information:

SMT is a Leadership and Discipleship program for young adults in the USA Central Territory. Through this 8 week program, team members will learn to become cultural learners, practice partnership and engage in matters of justice.

Summer Mission Team partners in Salvation Army ministry outside of the U.S. This team could be involved in a program ministry or light project work. Together with local Salvationists, the team will serve in the specific ministry needs that are identified by the hosts.

Every participant will need to raise $800 for program costs. A non-refundable $150 deposit will be due on February 13. The remainder will be due at the end of May.

If chosen to minister on an SMT you may be eligible to receive a $3,000 educational scholarship from The Salvation Army upon satisfactorily completing the ministry assignment.

Summer Mission Team members will stay through February 15 for Summer Mission Team orientation. Additional information about Regeneration registration and transportation will be communicated directly to Summer Mission Team applicants.

Some assignments may require vaccinations for disease including the COVID-19 vaccine.

Can SMT count as my college internship?
Possibly! Many previous SMT participants have used their experience to fulfill internship, practicum, or service-learning requirements. Contact us with the details of your program, and we’ll discuss the possibilities!

How are team assignments determined?

The Summer Mission Team Selection Committee, made up of 8 to 10 individuals, carefully reviews each SMT application and endorsements. Team placements are determined through prayerful consideration of multiple factors, including each applicant’s gifts/skills/experience, the needs of the host territory, and the overall balance of the team. Our goal is to create teams that can serve effectively while providing a meaningful growth experience for every participant.

What expenses are covered by the program?

Summer Mission Team covers all program-related expenses from June 4 through July 25, including lodging, meals, and transportation. Participants are generally only responsible for personal expenses such as snacks, souvenirs, or other personal purchases.

The program also covers the cost of entry and exit visas (when required), Regeneration registration, and Commissioning registration and housing.

Participants are responsible for any passport application or renewal fees.
