Jambo,
Hakuna mungu kama wewe (there’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus)
Hakuna mungu kama we (there’s no one, there’s no one like him)
Hakuna mungu kama wewe (there’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus)
Hakuna na hata kuwepo (there’s no one, there’s no one like him)
Our team has spent the last week finding this Swahili chorus to be the truth. This week we had the opportunity to do home visitations in the slums of Kawangware. We were blessed by the hospitality we witnessed. It amazed us that people who have nothing were willing to welcome us into their homes and provide us with refreshments. We were touched by the fellowship we had in these homes. It’s amazing what sharing a simple cup of juice can do to lift someone’s spirits.
On Sunday we split into two groups and visited the Congo and Kangemi Corps. Both groups were blessed to participate in open airs, Sunday school, and holiness meetings. We were able to dance and praise the Lord in new ways. How beautiful it is to hear several hundred voices praising the one true king with all they have. Our worship at home can not compare to what we have experienced here.
Today we visited several schools in the Thika division. These schools were Joytown primary and secondary schools as well as Thika School for the Blind. Joytown is a school for students with physical and mental disabilities. They provide them with an education as well as independence training and physical therapy. Thika School for the Blind is the leading school in its field. It provides students with an education as well as computer training. They strive to tell their students that a disability does not equal an inability. We also visited Variety Village and saw how the Army is providing previous Joytown Alumni and others, skills to succeed in various trades.
Our team was profoundly touched by this week especially with our visits today. We witnessed children pushing their friends’ wheel chairs and blind friends helping each other find their way. We heard choirs at both schools and the children’s voices made our hearts melt. We are amazed at their joy and faithfulness to Christ. We have everything and doubt God but they have nothing and are so faithful.
There truly is no one like our God. Our team is meditating on that today. Once again we are so blessed to be here. Words can not describe how much we love Kenya and its people.
Love and Blessings,
Team Kenya
