The Story of a Few Good Apples

applesI was driving to work once and saw a homeless man standing on the corner, waiting for a bus. There were small apples on the ground that had fallen off a tree. Most looked shriveled or bruised from where I could see them. He was looking all around him, wanting to pick some up, but hesitant because the traffic was stopped and people were watching him. But he did stoop down for a few in the end–hunger trumps pride. The light changed and I prayed for him as I drove on, that he could find a few good apples, and keep his dignity at the same time.
