Hi!
After our time in St. Louis we started our drive to Black Hills, South Dakota with the help of the Summer Mission Team Intern, Val. We stopped overnight at the Omaha Kroc Center to rest during the long trip, and had a night of team bonding.
Upon arrival at The Salvation Army Black Hills camp, we were greeted by Major and Auxiliary Captain Johnson who were getting ready for their move to their new appointment. We worshipped at the Rapid City Corps on Sunday and witnessed the farewell ceremony of both the Johnsons and Captain Crystal. We got to meet some of the corps people and kids that would be attending camp later that week. Capt. Crystal got to stay with us for the first of two camps that week to help while we waited for the new officers to arrive. We started of with the Native American Girls’ Camp with 10 girls who brought so much joy and energy. We took field trips to the Rapid City Aquatics Center, Mount Rushmore, Horseback riding, and Pizza Ranch. But most importantly, we shared in our VBS lessons about Heroes in the Bible and had fun with songs and games.
For Boys’ Camp we did many of the same things but with just 5 boys at camp, we had the opportunity to be very intentional in building relationships with them. On Wednesday we said see you later, to Capt. Crystal, and hello to Captains Moreno who were settling in to their new appointment. One of the highlights of Boys’ Camp was the unplanned water fight. Girls against boys! What a fun night of laughter.
Our last day on Saturday was a sad one because we had to leave such a beautiful place and the wonderful people that we met. Before we headed to our next location, we made a rest stop at our friend Capt. Crystal’s new corps in Sioux Falls and were able to be present for her installation. We are grateful to have been able to be at such a beautiful location where we were surrounded by God’s beautiful creation. Please be praying for all the officers who are transitioning to their new ministry locations and for the congregations who are dealing with this change.

The movie follows three decent working-class guys played by Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day.
